युधिष्ठिर उवाच
अपीडया च भूतानां धर्मस्याहिंसया तथा।
पात्रं विद्यात् तु तत्त्वेन यस्मै दत्तं न संतपेत्॥ ५॥ |

| युधिष्ठिर ने पूछा - पितामह! दान तो इस प्रकार देना उचित है कि जिससे किसी प्राणी को कष्ट न हो और धर्म में कोई बाधा न आए; किन्तु सुपात्र की वास्तविक पहचान कैसे हो? जिससे दिया गया दान आगे चलकर दुःख का कारण न बने॥5॥ |

| Yudhishthira asked - Grandfather! It is appropriate to give charity in such a way that no creature is hurt and there is no hindrance in Dharma; but how can the true identity of the person deserving be known? So that the charity given does not become the reason of sorrow later.॥ 5॥ |
