मधुस्रवा घृतधारा घृतार्चि-
र्महोर्मिभि: शोभिता ब्राह्मणैश्च।
दिवश्च्युता शिरसाऽऽप्ता शिवेन

| अनुवाद |
| भागीरथी मधु का स्रोत हैं और पवित्र जल की धारा प्रवाहित करती हैं। उनका प्रकाश जलते हुए घी की लौ के समान उज्ज्वल है। वे अपनी उठती हुई लहरों और उनके जल में स्नान करने वाले तथा संध्यावंदन करने वाले ब्राह्मणों से सुशोभित हैं। जब वे स्वर्ग से नीचे आईं, तो भगवान शिव ने उन्हें अपने सिर पर धारण किया। फिर वे हिमालय आईं और वहाँ से इस धरती पर अवतरित हुईं। श्री गंगाजी स्वर्ग की माता हैं। |

| Bhagirathi is the source of honey and flows the stream of holy water. Her light is bright like the flame of burning ghee. She is adorned by her rising waves and the Brahmins who bathe and perform evening prayers in her water. When she went down from heaven, Lord Shiva held her on his head. Then she came to the Himalayas and from there she descended on this earth. Shri Gangaji is the mother of heaven. |
