भीष्म उवाच
दैवं पौर्वाह्णिकं कुर्यादपराह्णे तु पैतृकम्।
मङ्गलाचारसम्पन्न: कृतशौच: प्रयत्नवान्॥ २॥
मनुष्याणां तु मध्याह्ने प्रदद्यादुपपत्तिभि:।
कालहीनं तु यद् दानं तं भागं रक्षसां विदु:॥ ३॥ |

| भीष्मजी बोले - राजन! मनुष्य को चाहिए कि स्नान आदि से शुद्ध होकर शुभ कर्म और पुरुषार्थ करे, प्रातःकाल देवताओं को दान दे, मध्याह्न में पितरों को दान दे और मध्याह्न में आदरपूर्वक मनुष्यों को दान दे। असमय किया गया दान राक्षसों का भाग माना जाता है। 2-3॥ |

A person should be purified by bathing, perform auspicious activities and make efforts, donate to gods in the morning, donate to ancestors in the afternoon and donate to humans with respect in the afternoon.
