अभिसंधिकृतस्यैव नैव नाशोऽस्ति कर्मण:।
अश्वमेधसहस्रैश्च प्रायश्चित्तशतैरपि॥
अन्यथा यत् कृतं पापं प्रमादाद् वा यदृच्छया।
प्रायश्चित्ताश्वमेधाभ्यां श्रेयसा तत् प्रणश्यति॥ |

| फल प्राप्ति की भावना से किए गए कर्मों का नाश हजारों अश्वमेध यज्ञों और सैकड़ों तपों से भी संभव नहीं है। इसके अतिरिक्त, असावधानी से या ईश्वर की इच्छा से जो पाप होता है, वह तप, अश्वमेध यज्ञ तथा अन्य किसी भी श्रेष्ठ कर्म से नष्ट हो जाता है। |
