स्वाध्यायो यजनं दानं तस्य धर्म इति स्थिति:।
कर्माण्यध्यापनं चैव याजनं च प्रतिग्रह:॥
सत्यं शान्तिस्तप: शौचं तस्य धर्म: सनातन:।

वेदाध्ययन, यज्ञ और दान देना ब्राह्मण का धर्म है, यही शास्त्रों का निर्णय है। वेद पढ़ाना, यजमानों के लिए यज्ञ कराना और दान लेना - ये उसकी जीविका के साधन हैं। सत्य, संयम, तप और शौच का पालन - यही उसका सनातन धर्म है।
Study of Vedas, performing Yagya and donation is the religion of a Brahmin, this is the decision of the scriptures. Teaching Vedas, conducting Yagya for the Yajman and accepting donations – these are the means of his livelihood. Following truth, self-control, penance and cleanliness – this is his eternal religion.
