राजा का परम धर्म है - इन्द्रिय संयम, स्वाध्याय, अग्निहोत्रकर्म, दान, अध्ययन, यज्ञोपवीत धारण, यज्ञानुष्ठान, धार्मिक कार्य करना, पालक परिवार का पालन-पोषण, आरम्भ किये गये कार्य को सफल बनाना, अपराध के अनुसार उचित दण्ड देना, वैदिक यज्ञ आदि का अनुष्ठान करना, व्यवहार में न्याय की रक्षा करना और सत्यभाषण में अनुरक्त रहना। ये सभी कर्म राजा के लिए धर्म हैं।
The ultimate dharma of a king is - restraint of senses, self-study, Agnihotrakarma, charity, study, wearing of Yajnopavita, Yagyan rituals, performance of religious work, maintenance of the foster family, making the work started successful, giving appropriate punishment according to the crime, performing rituals of Vedic Yagya etc., protecting justice in behavior and being attached to speaking the truth. All these deeds are religion for the king.
