उमोवाच
भगवन् केन ते वक्त्रं चन्द्रवत् प्रियदर्शनम्।
पूर्वं तथैव श्रीकान्तमुत्तरं पश्चिमं तथा॥ ४६॥
दक्षिणं च मुखं रौद्रं केनोर्ध्वं कपिला जटा:।
केन कण्ठश्च ते नीलो बर्हिबर्हनिभ: कृत:॥ ४७॥ |

| उन्होंने पूछा - "हे प्रभु! (आपके चार मुख क्यों हैं?) आपका पूर्वमुखी मुख चन्द्रमा के समान प्रकाशमान और देखने में अत्यंत मनोहर है। उत्तर और पश्चिममुखी मुख भी पूर्वमुखी मुख के समान ही मनोहर हैं। परंतु दक्षिणमुखी मुख अत्यंत भयानक है। यह भेद क्यों है? और आपके सिर पर ये भूरे जटाएँ कैसे उत्पन्न हुईं? आपकी गर्दन मोर के पंख के समान नीली क्यों हो गई है? इसका क्या कारण है?॥ 46-47॥ |

| He asked, "O Lord! (Why do you have four faces?) Your face facing east is as luminous as the moon and is very pleasant to look at. The faces facing north and west are also as lovely as the east. But the face facing south is very scary. Why is there this difference? And how did you get the brown matted locks on your head? What is the reason that your neck has become blue like the peacock's feather?॥ 46-47॥ |
