यदि कोई मनुष्य अपने पुत्र की मृत्यु के शोक में मरणव्रत पर बैठे अथवा शस्त्र आदि से आत्महत्या करने का प्रयत्न करे; और यदि वह न मरे, तो भी उसे तीन रात्रि तक उपवास करने को कहा जाए, ताकि जो पाप उसने किया है, उसका प्रायश्चित हो सके ॥18॥
‘If a man grieving the death of his son sits on a fast unto death or tries to commit suicide with a weapon etc.; But even in the case that he does not die, he should be told to fast for three nights to atone for the blame for the blasphemous act that was attempted. 18॥
