चतुर्विधा हि लोकेऽस्मिन् यात्रा तात विधीयते।
मर्त्या यत्रावतिष्ठन्ते सा च कामात् प्रवर्तते॥ ९॥
अनुवाद
तात! इस संसार में चार प्रकार की जीविका का विधान है (ब्राह्मण के लिए यज्ञादि करके दक्षिणा लेना, क्षत्रिय के लिए कर लेना, वैश्य के लिए कृषि आदि करना तथा शूद्र के लिए तीनों वर्णों की सेवा करना)। मनुष्य इन चार प्रकार की जीविकाओं का आश्रय लेते हैं। वह जीविका ईश्वर की इच्छा से होती है। 9॥
Tat! There are four types of livelihood rules in this world (for a Brahmin, taking dakshina by performing Yagyaadi, for a Kshatriya, taking taxes, for a Vaishya, doing farming etc. and for a Shudra, serving all three varnas). Human beings take shelter of these four types of livelihood. That livelihood is done by God's will. 9॥
