शतं सहस्राणि ततश्चरित्वा
प्राप्नोति वर्णं हरितं तु पश्चात्।
स चैव तस्मिन् निवसत्यनीशो
युगक्षये तपसा संवृतात्मा॥ ३८॥ |

| तत्पश्चात् वह जीव लाखों बार (या लाखों वर्षों तक) नरक में भटकता है और फिर धुएँ के समान रंग को प्राप्त होता है (पशु, पक्षी आदि योनियों में जन्म लेता है)। उस योनि में भी वह असहाय होता है और महान दुःखों से युक्त रहता है। फिर आयु समाप्त होने पर तप (प्राचीन पुण्य या विवेक) के प्रभाव से उसका उद्धार होता है और उस संकट से मुक्ति मिलती है॥ 38॥ |

| ‘After that the soul wanders in hell for lakhs of times (or for lakhs of years) and then gets the colour of smoke (takes birth in the form of animal, bird etc.). In that form also he is helpless and lives with great misery. Then when the age ends, he is saved by the effect of penance (ancient good deeds or prudence) and gets salvation from that crisis.॥ 38॥ |
