जहाँ वह रहता था, वहाँ भोजन के लिए केवल सावन (शकरकंद) ही मिलता था। दाल बनाने के लिए सूर्यपर्णी (जंगली काला चना) और शाक के लिए सुवर्चला (ब्राह्मी लता) तथा अन्य प्रकार की कड़वी और स्वादहीन सब्जियाँ ही मिलती थीं; परन्तु ब्राह्मण के तप के कारण उपर्युक्त सभी वस्तुएँ स्वादिष्ट हो गईं॥4॥
Where he lived, only saavan (Indian sweet potato) was available as food. Suryaparni (wild black gram) was available for making dal and Suvarchala (brahmi creeper) and other kinds of bitter and tasteless vegetables were available for vegetables; but due to the penance of the Brahmin, all the above mentioned things became tasty. ॥ 4॥
