युधिष्ठिर उवाच
अभिमन्यौ हते बाले द्रौपद्यास्तनयेषु च।
धृष्टद्युम्ने विराटे च द्रुपदे च महीपतौ॥ १॥
वृषसेने च धर्मज्ञे धृष्टकेतौ तु पार्थिवे।
तथान्येषु नरेन्द्रेषु नानादेश्येषु संयुगे॥ २॥
न च मुञ्चति मां शोको ज्ञातिघातिनमातुरम्।
राज्यकामुकमत्युग्रं स्ववंशोच्छेदकारिणम्॥ ३॥
अनुवाद
युधिष्ठिर ने व्यासजी से कहा, "हे महामुनि! इस युद्ध में बालक अभिमन्यु, द्रौपदी के पाँचों पुत्र, धृष्टद्युम्न, विराट, राजा द्रुपद, धर्मज्ञ ऋषि वृषसेन, चेदि नरेश धृष्टकेतु तथा नाना देशों के राजा भी वीरगति को प्राप्त हुए हैं। मैं अपने ही बन्धुओं का हत्यारा, राज्यलोलुप, अत्यन्त क्रूर तथा अपने ही वंश का नाश करने वाला हूँ। यह सब सोचकर मैं शोक से नहीं रुक सकता और अत्यन्त चिन्ताग्रस्त हूँ॥1-3॥
Yudhishthira said to Vyasa, "O great sage! In this war, the child Abhimanyu, the five sons of Draupadi, Dhrishtadyumna, Virata, King Drupada, the religious sage Vrishasena, Chedi king Dhrishtaketu and other kings from various countries have also attained martyrdom. I have been a killer of my own brethren, greedy for kingdoms, extremely cruel and the destroyer of my own dynasty. Thinking about all this, I am unable to stop grieving and am extremely anxious.॥1-3॥
