भरणाद्धि स्त्रियो भर्ता पालनाद्धि पतिस्तथा।
गुणस्यास्य निवृत्तौ तु न भर्ता न पुन: पति:॥ ३७॥
अनुवाद
पुरुष इसलिए पति कहलाता है कि वह अपनी पत्नी का पालन-पोषण करता है और पत्नी इसलिए कि वह उसका पालन-पोषण करती है। इन गुणों के अभाव में वह न तो पति है और न ही पतिव्रता॥37॥
‘A man is called a husband because he supports his wife and a wife because he nurtures her. In the absence of these qualities, he is neither a husband nor a husband.॥ 37॥
