गुरुरग्रॺ: परो धर्म: पोषणाध्यापनान्वित:।
पिता यदाह धर्म: स वेदेष्वपि सुनिश्चित:॥ १७॥
अनुवाद
पिता पुत्र का प्रधान गुरु है, क्योंकि वही पालन-पोषण और शिक्षा प्रदान करता है। वह परम धर्म का स्वरूप है। पिता जो आज्ञा दे, उसे ही धर्म मानना चाहिए। वेदों में भी उसे धर्म ही कहा गया है।॥17॥
‘The father is the chief teacher of the son because he provides sustenance and education. He is the embodiment of the ultimate religion. Whatever the father commands, that should be accepted as Dharma. That has been determined as Dharma in the Vedas as well.॥ 17॥
