युधिष्ठिर ने पूछा- राजन! संसार में कुछ विद्वान दो तत्त्वों का प्रतिपादन करते हैं, जड़ और चेतन अथवा प्रकृति और पुरुष। कुछ लोग तीन तत्त्वों का वर्णन करते हैं- जीव, ईश्वर और प्रकृति तथा बहुत से विद्वान अनेक तत्त्वों का वर्णन करते रहते हैं; अतः न तो कहीं विश्वास किया जा सकता है और न ही अविश्वास। इसके अतिरिक्त वह परमेश्वर प्रत्यक्ष नहीं है। शास्त्र अनेक प्रकार के हैं और उनका वर्णन भिन्न-भिन्न प्रकार से किया गया है; अतः हे पितामह! कृपया मुझे बताएँ कि मुझे किस सिद्धांत का पालन करना चाहिए।
Yudhishthira asked- King! Some scholars in the world propound two elements, inanimate and conscious or nature and man. Some people describe three elements- living beings, God and nature and many scholars keep on describing many elements; hence neither belief nor disbelief can be done anywhere. Apart from this, that Supreme God is not visible. There are many types of scriptures and they have been described in different ways; hence, grandfather! Please tell me which principle should I follow.
