युधिष्ठिर उवाच
यदिदं कर्म लोकेऽस्मिन् शुभं वा यदि वाशुभम्।
पुरुषं योजयत्येव फलयोगेन भारत॥ १॥
कर्तास्ति तस्य पुरुष उताहो नेति संशय:।
एतदिच्छामि तत्त्वेन त्वत्त: श्रोतुं पितामह॥ २॥
अनुवाद
युधिष्ठिर ने पूछा - "भारत! इस संसार में जो अच्छे या बुरे कर्म किए जाते हैं, उनका फल मनुष्य को सुख-दुःख रूप में भोगना पड़ता है; किन्तु मनुष्य उन कर्मों का कर्ता है या नहीं, इसमें मुझे संदेह है; अतः हे पितामह! मैं आपसे इसका युक्तिसंगत समाधान सुनना चाहता हूँ॥ 1-2॥
Yudhishthira asked, "Bharat! The good or bad deeds that are done in this world, they make a man suffer the consequences in the form of happiness and sorrow; but I have a doubt whether a man is the doer of those deeds or not; therefore, O grandfather! I want to hear its logical solution from you.॥ 1-2॥
