पश्यन्नपि यथा लक्ष्म जगत् सोमे न विन्दति।
एवमस्ति न चोत्पन्नं न च तन्न परायणम्॥ ८॥
अनुवाद
जैसे चन्द्रमा पर जो कलंक है, वह जगत् अर्थात् पृथ्वी का प्रतीक है; परन्तु उसे देखकर भी मनुष्य यह नहीं समझता कि वह जगत् अर्थात् पृथ्वी का प्रतीक है। वैसे ही 'मैं हूँ' स्वरूप आत्मा का ज्ञान तो सबको है; परन्तु सच्चा ज्ञान नहीं है; इसी कारण मनुष्य उस पर आश्रित नहीं है॥8॥
Just as the blemish on the moon is a symbol of the world i.e. the earth; but even after seeing it, man does not understand that it is a symbol of the world i.e. the earth. Similarly, everyone has knowledge of the soul in the form 'I am'; but does not have the true knowledge; due to this man is not dependent on it.॥ 8॥
