यथाशक्ति समाचारा: सम्प्रतुष्यन्ति हि प्रभो।
नास्थाने क्रोधवन्तश्च न चाकस्माद् विरागिण:।
विरक्ताश्च न दुष्यन्ति मनसाप्यर्थकोविदा:॥ २०॥
आत्मानं पीडयित्वापि सुहृत्कार्यपरायणा:।
विरज्यन्ति न मित्रेभ्यो वासो रक्तमिवाविकम्॥ २१॥
क्रोधाच्च लोभमोहाभ्यां नानर्थे युवतीषु च।
न दर्शयन्ति सुहृदो विश्वस्ता धर्मवत्सला:॥ २२॥
लोष्टकाञ्चनतुल्यार्था: सुहृत्सु दृढबुद्धय:।
ये चरन्त्यभिमानानि सृष्टार्थमनुषङ्गिण:॥ २३॥
संगृह्णन्त: परिजनं स्वाम्यर्थपरमा: सदा।
ईदृशै: पुरुषश्रेष्ठैर्य: संधिं कुरुते नृप:॥ २४॥
तस्य विस्तीर्यते राज्यं ज्योत्स्ना ग्रहपतेरिव।
अनुवाद
प्रभु! जो अपनी शक्ति के अनुसार अपने कर्तव्यों का पालन करते हुए संतुष्ट रहते हैं, जो अनुचित समय पर क्रोध नहीं करते, जो अचानक स्नेह का परित्याग नहीं करते, जो उदासीन होने पर भी मन में कभी अशुभ की कामना नहीं करते, जो अर्थशास्त्र के मर्म को समझते हैं और स्वयं को संकट में डालकर भी शुभचिंतकों का कार्य संपन्न करते हैं। जैसे रंगे हुए ऊनी वस्त्र का रंग नहीं छूटता, वैसे ही जो राजा ऐसे महान पुरुषों के साथ संधि करता है, जो अपने मित्रों से विमुख नहीं होते, जो क्रोध में आकर अपने मित्रों का अनिष्ट नहीं करते और जो लोभ और मोह के वश होकर अपने मित्रों की युवतियों में आसक्त नहीं होते, जो अपने मित्रों के प्रति निष्ठावान और धर्मनिष्ठ होते हैं, जिनकी दृष्टि में मिट्टी और सोना एक समान हैं, जो अपने मित्रों के प्रति सदैव स्थिरचित्त रहते हैं, जो सबके लिए सिद्ध शास्त्रों का पालन करते हैं और जो प्रारब्ध से प्राप्त धन से संतुष्ट रहते हैं, जो परिवार का पालन करते हुए अपने मित्रों और स्वामियों की सहायता के लिए सदैव तत्पर रहते हैं - जो राजा ऐसे महान पुरुषों के साथ संधि करता है, उसका राज्य चांदनी के समान बढ़ता है। ॥20-24 1/2॥
Prabhu! Those who perform their duties properly according to their capacity and remain satisfied, who do not get angry at inappropriate times, who do not suddenly abandon affection, who even when indifferent never wish evil in their mind, who understand the essence of economics and accomplish the work of well-wishers even by putting themselves in trouble. Just as a dyed woollen cloth does not lose its colour, similarly, a king who makes a pact with such great men as do not turn away from his friends, who do not incite harm to his friends in anger and who do not get attached to his friends' young women under the influence of greed and infatuation, who are faithful to their friends and devoted to Dharma, in whose eyes a lump of mud and gold are the same, who always have a steady mind towards his friends, who follow the scriptures which are proven for everyone and who are satisfied with the wealth that he has received due to destiny, who, while maintaining a family, are always ready to help their friends and masters - a king who makes a pact with such great men, his kingdom grows like the moonlight. ॥20-24 1/2॥
