इस प्रकार शकुन्त ही मेनकाकुमारी की रक्षा कर रहा था। उस समय जब मैं जल पीने के लिए मालिनी के तट पर गया, तो मैंने देखा कि वह पक्षियों से घिरी हुई एक सुन्दर निर्जन वन में सो रही है। मुझे देखते ही वे सभी मधुरभाषी पक्षी मेरे चरणों पर गिर पड़े और इस प्रकार सुन्दर वाणी में बोलने लगे॥13॥
