महाराज दुष्यंत जब भ्रमण कर रहे थे, तब योद्धाओं की गर्जना, शंख और नगाड़ों की ध्वनि, रथ के पहियों की घरघराहट, बड़े-बड़े हाथियों की चिंघाड़, घोड़ों की हिनहिनाहट, नाना प्रकार के अस्त्र-शस्त्र और नाना प्रकार के वेशधारी योद्धाओं की गर्जना और तालियों से सर्वत्र महान कोलाहल मच गया। महल के शिखर पर बैठी हुई स्त्रियाँ उत्तम राजसी शोभा से युक्त उस वीर दुष्यंत को देख रही थीं। वह अपनी कीर्ति बढ़ाने वाला, इंद्र के समान पराक्रमी और शत्रुओं का संहार करने वाला था। शत्रुओं के उन्मत्त हाथी को रोकने के लिए उसमें सिंह के समान बल था।
