क्षेत्रभूत अम्बिका और अम्बालिका के गर्भ से कृष्णद्वैपायन व्यास द्वारा राजा विचित्रवीर्य के यहाँ राजा धृतराष्ट्र और महाबली पाण्डुक उत्पन्न हुए । द्वैपायन व्यास की शूद्र जाति की स्त्री के गर्भ से विदुरजी का भी जन्म हुआ । वे धर्म और अर्थशास्त्र के ज्ञाता, बुद्धिमान, तेजस्वी और निष्पाप थे । पाण्डु की दो पत्नियों से पाँच पुत्र उत्पन्न हुए, जो सब देवताओं के समान थे । उनमें युधिष्ठिर सबसे श्रेष्ठ थे । वे सद्गुणों में भी श्रेष्ठ थे । 113—115॥
King Dhritarashtra and Mahabali Panduka were born to King Vichitravirya from the womb of Kshetrabhuta Ambika and Ambalika by Krishnadwaipayan Vyas. Vidurji was also born from the womb of a Shudra caste woman from Dwaipayan Vyas. He was adept in the knowledge of religion and economics, intelligent, brilliant and sinless. Five sons were born to Pandu from two wives, all of whom were like gods. Yudhishthir was the greatest among them. He was also the most excellent in good qualities. 113—115॥
