महाराज! जब न्यायपूर्वक मांगने पर भी उन्हें राज्य नहीं मिला, तब दोनों दलों में युद्ध छिड़ गया। तब वीर पाण्डवों ने क्षत्रिय कुल का नाश करके राजा दुर्योधन को भी मार डाला और अपना राज्य पुनः प्राप्त कर लिया, जिसका अधिकांश भाग उजाड़ हो गया था। हे विजयी वीरों में श्रेष्ठ जनमेजय! निष्काम भाव से महान् कर्म करने वाले पाण्डवों का यही प्राचीन इतिहास है। इस प्रकार राज्य के नाश के लिए उनमें फूट पड़ी और युद्ध के पश्चात् उन्होंने विजय प्राप्त की। 52-53।
Maharaj! When they did not get the kingdom even after asking for it in such a just manner, a war broke out between the two parties. Then the brave Pandavas annihilated the Kshatriya clan and also killed King Duryodhana and regained their kingdom, most of which had become desolate. O best of the victorious heroes, Janamejaya! This is the ancient history of the Pandavas who performed great deeds without any reason. In this way, there was a rift among them for the destruction of the kingdom and after the war, they achieved victory. 52-53.
