वे बेचारे सर्प अपनी माता के शाप से पीड़ित होकर सर्पयज्ञ की अग्नि में अपनी आहुति देने को विवश हुए। उनके नाम इस प्रकार हैं - कोटिश, मानस, पूर्ण, शाल, पल, हलीमा, पिच्छल, कौनप, चक्र, कालवेग, प्रकालन, हिरण्यबाहु, शरण, कक्षक और कालदन्तक॥5-6॥
