ज्ञानी-नेत्रधारी राजा धृतराष्ट्र अपने पुत्र के शोक से दुःखी होकर भीमसेन के प्रति ईर्ष्या से भर गए और श्रीकृष्ण द्वारा अपने पास लाई हुई दृढ़ लोहे की मूर्ति को भीमसेन समझकर उसे दबा दिया और टुकड़े-टुकड़े कर दिया। उस समय विदुरजी ने पुत्रशोक से पीड़ित हुए बुद्धिमान राजा धृतराष्ट्र को बुद्धि के द्वारा संसार का दुःख समझाकर तथा संसार का दुःख बताकर शांत किया।
