वसिष्ठ जी ने (पराशर जी से) कहा - बेटा! इस पृथ्वी पर कृतवीर्य नाम से प्रसिद्ध एक राजा हुए थे। वे भृगुवंश के महान वैदिक ब्राह्मणों के आश्रयदाता थे। पिताश्री! उस राजा ने सोम यज्ञ करके अंत में अन्न खाने वाले उन भार्गवों को प्रचुर धन-धान्य देकर संतुष्ट किया। राजाओं में श्रेष्ठ कृतवीर्य की मृत्यु के बाद उनके वंशजों को धन की आवश्यकता हुई। भृगुवंशी ब्राह्मणों के पास धन है, यह जानकर वे सभी राजकुमार उन महान भार्गवों के पास भिक्षा मांगने गए। उस समय कुछ भार्गवों ने अपना अक्षय धन भूमि में गाड़ दिया।
Vasishtha said (to Parashara) - Son! There was a king on this earth known as Kritavirya. He was the patron of the great Vedic Brahmins of the Bhrigu dynasty. Father! That king performed a Soma Yagya and at the end satisfied those food-eating Bhargavas by giving them abundant wealth and grains. After the death of Kritavirya, the best of kings, his descendants needed money. Knowing that the Bhrigu dynasty Brahmins have wealth, all those princes went to those great Bhargavas as beggars. At that time some Bhargavas buried their inexhaustible amount of money in the ground.
