विदुर ने कहा- धृतराष्ट्र, शकुनि और राजा दुर्योधन ने यह निश्चय किया था कि पाण्डवों का नाश कर दिया जाए। तत्पश्चात, जब लाक्षागृह में जाकर दुर्योधन की आज्ञा से कुंती को उसके पुत्रों सहित जलाने की योजना बनी, तब मैंने एक मिट्टी खोदने वाले को बुलाकर भूमिगत गुफा सहित सुरंग खुदवाई और गृह में आग लगने से पहले ही पाण्डवों सहित कुंती को बाहर निकाल लिया, अतः आप अपने हृदय में शोक को स्थान न दें। राजन! शत्रुओं को संताप देने वाले पाण्डव अपनी माता सहित उस भयंकर अग्नि से बच निकले हैं। यह कार्य मेरे पूर्वोक्त उपाय से ही संभव हुआ है। पाण्डव अवश्य जीवित हैं, अतः आप उनके लिए शोक न करें। जब तक यह समय परिवर्तित होकर अनुकूल न हो जाए, तब तक पाण्डव इस पृथ्वी पर छिपकर विचरण करेंगे। अनुकूल समय आने पर सभी राजा इस पृथ्वी पर युधिष्ठिर को देखेंगे।

When the favorable time comes, all the kings will see Yudhishthira on this earth.
