इन त्रिविध पुरुषार्थों - धर्म, अर्थ और काम - के आचरण में तीन प्रकार की बाधाएँ उपस्थित होती हैं। इसी प्रकार इनके फल भी तीन ही प्रकार के होते हैं। (धर्म का फल अर्थ और काम अर्थात् भोग की प्राप्ति, अर्थ का फल धर्म और भोग का उपभोग तथा काम अर्थात् भोग का फल इन्द्रिय तृप्ति है।) इन (तीनों प्रकार के) फलों को शुभ (चुनने योग्य) समझना चाहिए; परंतु (ऊपर बताई गई तीन प्रकार की बाधाओं को) यत्नपूर्वक त्याग देना चाहिए। (त्रिविध पुरुषार्थ का इस प्रकार उपभोग करना चाहिए कि वे तीनों एक-दूसरे में बाधक न हों, अर्थात जीवन में तीनों का सामंजस्य सुखदायी हो।)॥69॥
There are three types of obstacles present in the pursuit of these threefold efforts - Dharma, Artha and Kama. Similarly, they have only three types of fruits. (The fruit of Dharma is Artha and Kama i.e. attainment of enjoyment, the fruit of Artha is the consumption of Dharma and enjoyment and the fruit of Kama i.e. enjoyment is sensual gratification.) These (three types of) fruits should be considered auspicious (choosable); But (the three types of obstacles mentioned above) should be avoided diligently. (Threefold effort should be consumed in such a way that all three do not hinder each other, that is, harmony of all three in life is pleasurable.)॥ 69॥
