वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं - जनमेजय! तत्पश्चात अश्वत्थामा ने बड़े वेग से उठकर भीमसेन और दुर्योधन को रोककर कहा - 'भीम! गान्धारीनन्दन, तुम्हारे गुरु की यही आज्ञा है! आचार्य की आज्ञा है कि तुम दोनों का युद्ध बंद हो जाए। तुम दोनों योग्य हो, तुम्हारा एक-दूसरे पर उतावला आक्रमण अवांछनीय है। तुम दोनों का यह दुस्साहस अनुचित है। अतः इसे बंद करो।' ऐसा कहकर गुरुपुत्र अश्वत्थामा ने प्रलयकाल की वायु से व्याकुल होकर उठती हुई लहरों वाले दो समुद्रों के समान दुर्योधन और भीमसेन को युद्ध करने से रोक दिया॥5॥
Vaishampayanji says – Janamejaya! Thereafter Ashwatthama stood up with great speed and stopped Bhimsen and Duryodhana and said – 'Bhim! This is your Guru's order, Gandhari Nandan! Acharya's order is that the war between you two should stop. Both of you are worthy, your rash attack on each other is undesirable. This courage of both of you is inappropriate. Therefore, stop it.' Saying this, Guru's son Ashwatthama stopped Duryodhana and Bhimsen from fighting like two oceans with rising waves, disturbed by the wind of the doomsday. 5॥
