जब मैं लौटा तो देखा कि छोटे-छोटे बच्चे अश्वत्थामा को आटे का पानी पिलाकर ललचा रहे थे और वह बालक अज्ञानवश उस आटे के पानी को पीकर इतना प्रसन्न हुआ कि 'मैंने दूध पी लिया' कहकर उठकर नाचने लगा। हे कुरुपुत्र! अपने पुत्र को बच्चों से घिरा हुआ इस प्रकार नाचते और उसका उपहास उड़ाते देखकर मुझे बहुत क्रोध आया। उस समय कुछ लोग कह रहे थे, 'धिक्कार है इस बेचारे द्रोण पर जो धन नहीं कमाता।'
