वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं - जनमेजय! इस प्रकार कुन्ती और माद्री दोनों अचेत होकर अत्यन्त विलाप करती हुई पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ीं। युधिष्ठिर आदि सभी पाण्डव वेदों के ज्ञान में पारंगत हो चुके थे, वे भी अपने पिता के पास आकर पृथ्वी पर अचेत होकर गिर पड़े। सभी पाण्डव पाण्डु के चरणों को हृदय से स्पर्श करते हुए विलाप करने लगे।
