ताराणामिव सम्पातो बभूव जनमेजय।
भूषणानां च सर्वेषां कवचानां च सर्वश:॥ २२॥
सवर्मभिर्भूषणैश्च प्रकीर्यद्भिरितस्तत:।
सक्रोधामर्षजिह्मभ्रूकषायीकृतलोचना:॥ २३॥
सूतोपक्लृप्तान् रुचिरान् सदश्वैरुपकल्पितान्।
रथानास्थाय ते वीरा: सर्वप्रहरणान्विता:॥ २४॥
प्रयान्तमथ कौरव्यमनुसस्रुरुदायुधा:।
तत: समभवद् युद्धं तेषां तस्य च भारत।
एकस्य च बहूनां च तुमुलं लोमहर्षणम्॥ २५॥
अनुवाद
जनमेजय! शीघ्रता के कारण उनके आभूषण और कवच इधर-उधर गिर पड़े। उस समय ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा था मानो आकाश से तारे टूटकर गिर रहे हों। अनेक योद्धाओं के कवच और आभूषण इधर-उधर बिखर गये थे। क्रोध और क्षोभ के कारण उनकी भौंहें टेढ़ी हो गयी थीं और आँखें लाल हो गयी थीं। महारथियों ने सुन्दर रथ सजाकर उनमें सुन्दर घोड़े जोते थे। उन रथों पर बैठकर, सब प्रकार के अस्त्र-शस्त्रों से सुसज्जित होकर, वे वीर योद्धा प्रस्थान करते हुए कुरुपुत्र भीष्मजी के पीछे-पीछे चल पड़े। जनमेजय! तत्पश्चात् उन राजाओं और भीष्मजी में घोर युद्ध हुआ। भीष्मजी अकेले थे और राजा बहुत थे। उन दोनों में रोंगटे खड़े कर देने वाला, भयानक युद्ध छिड़ गया।
Janmejaya! Due to haste, their ornaments and armour fell here and there. At that time it seemed as if the stars were falling from the sky. The armour and ornaments of many warriors were scattered here and there. Due to anger and resentment, their eyebrows had become crooked and their eyes had become red. The charioteers had decorated beautiful chariots and harnessed beautiful horses in them. Sitting on those chariots, equipped with all kinds of weapons and weapons, those brave warriors followed the departing son of Kuru, Bhishmaji. Janmejaya! Thereafter, a fierce battle took place between those kings and Bhishmaji. Bhishmaji was alone and there were many kings. A hair-raising, dreadful battle broke out between them.
