हे गोविन्द! जब वे सभी, जिनके लिए हम इन्हें चाहते हैं, इस युद्धभूमि में खड़े हैं, तो राज्य, सुख या जीवन से हमें क्या लाभ? हे मधुसूदन! जब गुरु, पिता, पुत्र, पितामह, मामा, ससुर, पौत्र, साले और अन्य सम्बन्धी अपने प्राण और सम्पत्ति त्यागकर मेरे समक्ष खड़े हैं, तो मैं उन्हें क्यों मारना चाहूँ, भले ही वे मुझे मार ही डालें? हे समस्त जीवों के पालनहार! मैं इस पृथ्वी की तो बात ही क्या, तीनों लोकों के बदले में भी उनसे युद्ध करने को तैयार नहीं हूँ। धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों को मारकर हमें क्या सुख मिलेगा?
O Govinda! What do we gain from the kingdom, happiness or this life! Because all the people for whom we love them are standing in this battlefield. O Madhusudan! When the Gurus, ancestors, sons, grandfathers, maternal uncles, fathers-in-law, grandsons, brothers-in-law and all other relatives are ready to give their wealth and life and are standing before me, then why should I want to kill all of them, even if they kill me? O protector of the living beings! I am not ready to fight with all of them, even if I get the three worlds in return, leave alone this earth. What happiness will we get by killing the sons of Dhritarashtra?
