"गोपियों ने सोचा, 'बांसुरी अपने पद के लिए सर्वथा अनुपयुक्त है। हम जानना चाहती हैं कि बांसुरी ने किस प्रकार की तपस्या की थी, ताकि हम भी वैसी ही तपस्या कर सकें। यद्यपि बांसुरी अनुपयुक्त है, फिर भी वह कृष्ण के होठों का अमृतपान कर रही है। यह देखकर हम योग्य गोपियाँ दुःख से मर रही हैं। इसलिए, हमें बांसुरी द्वारा पूर्वजन्म में की गई तपस्या पर विचार करना चाहिए।'"
The gopis thought, "This flute-bearer is completely unworthy of his position. We want to know what kind of penance this flute-bearer has performed so that we too can do the same. Although this flute-bearer is unworthy, it is drinking the nectar from Krishna's lips. Seeing this, we worthy gopis are dying of grief. Therefore, we should consider the penance performed by the flute-bearer in his past life."
