All the rituals and sacrifices, namely Agnihotra-yajna, Darsha-yajna, Poornamasya-yajna, Chaturmasya-yajna, Pashu-yajna and Soma-yajna, are characterised by the slaughter of animals and the burning of many precious substances, especially grains. All these are performed for the satisfaction of material desires and they cause anxiety (disquietude). Performing such sacrifices, worshipping Vaishvadeva and performing the Baliharan festival, all of which are probably considered the goals of life, building temples for the gods, rest houses and gardens, digging wells for water distribution, establishing centres for food distribution and doing welfare work for the people—all these symptoms are manifested by attachment to material desires.
