प्रायुङ्क्त भूय: स गदां महात्मा ।
इन्द्रोऽमृतस्यन्दिकराभिमर्श
वीतव्यथक्षतवाहोऽवतस्थे ॥ १२ ॥
अनुवाद
जब वृत्रासुर ने देखा कि इंद्र का हाथी बेहद थक चुका था और घायल भी हुआ था, और इस तरह से अपने वाहन को घायल हुआ देखकर इंद्र ने अपने आप को क्षुब्ध कर लिया था, तो वृत्रासुर ने अपने धर्म का पालन करते हुए इंद्र पर फिर से वार करना बंद कर दिया। इस मौके का फायदा उठाते हुए इंद्र ने अपने अमृत-उत्पादक हाथ से उस हाथी को स्पर्श किया, जिससे उस जानवर का सारा दर्द दूर हो गया और उसके घाव भी ठीक हो गये। इसके बाद वो हाथी और इंद्र दोनों ही चुपचाप खड़े हो गए।
When he saw that the elephant carrying Indra was tired and wounded and that Indra himself was sad to see him so wounded, the great man Vritrasura, following the rules of Dharma, hesitated to attack Indra again with his mace. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Indra touched the elephant with his hand showering nectar, due to which the pain of the animal went away and its wounds healed. Then both the elephant and Indra stood quietly.
