अन्ने प्रलीयते मर्त्यमन्नं धानासु लीयते ।
धाना भूमौ प्रलीयन्ते भूमिर्गन्धे प्रलीयते ॥ २२ ॥
अप्सु प्रलीयते गन्ध आपश्च स्वगुणे रसे ।
लीयते ज्योतिषि रसो ज्योती रूपे प्रलीयते ॥ २३ ॥
रूपं वायौ स च स्पर्शे लीयते सोऽपि चाम्बरे ।
अम्बरं शब्दतन्मात्र इन्द्रियाणि स्वयोनिषु ॥ २४ ॥
योनिर्वैकारिके सौम्य लीयते मनसीश्वरे ।
शब्दो भूतादिमप्येति भूतादिर्महति प्रभुः ॥ २५ ॥
स लीयते महान् स्वेषु गुणेषु गुणवत्तमः ।
तेऽव्यक्ते सम्प्रलीयन्ते तत् काले लीयतेऽव्यये ॥ २६ ॥
कालो मायामये जीवे जीव आत्मनि मय्यजे ।
आत्मा केवल आत्मस्थो विकल्पापायलक्षणः ॥ २७ ॥
अनुवाद
सृष्टि के विनाश के समय प्राणियों का शरीर खाने-पीने में मिल जाता है। खाने-पीने की वस्तुएँ अनाज में मिल जाती हैं और अनाज पुनः पृथ्वी में मिल जाते हैं। पृथ्वी की महीन अनुभूति सुगंध कहलाती है, जिसमें पृथ्वी मिल जाती है। सुगंध जल में और जल स्वाद में मिल जाता है। स्वाद अग्नि में मिल जाता है और अग्नि रूप में। रूप स्पर्श में और स्पर्श आकाश में मिल जाता है। अंत में आकाश ध्वनि की अनुभूति में मिल जाता है। सभी इंद्रियाँ अपने प्रारंभिक या मूल रूप में समा जाती हैं, अधिष्ठातृ देवता यानी अपनी इंद्रियों के संचालन में लगे देवता, हे सुंदर उद्धव! वे भी नियामक मन में मिल जाते हैं और मन सौम्य अहंकार में। शब्द तामसी अहंकार में और यह सर्वशक्तिमान और सबसे पहला माना जाने वाला अहंकार समग्र प्रकृति में मिल जाता है। तीनों गुणों की जननी समग्र प्रकृति गुणों में मिल जाती है। तब ये गुण प्रकृति के आव्यक्त रूप में मिल जाते हैं और यह अव्यक्त रूप काल में मिल जाता है। काल परब्रह्म में मिल जाता है जो कि सर्वसूत्रधार महापुरुष के रूप में, समस्त जीवों के आदि प्रेरक के रूप में विराजते हैं। समस्त जीवन का उद्गम मैं हूँ, अजन्मा परमात्मा हूँ जो अपने भीतर स्थित रहकर अकेला रहता हूँ। उन्हीं से समस्त सृजन व संहार प्रकट होते हैं।
At the time of death, the mortal body of the living entity dissolves into food. Food dissolves into food and food dissolves into earth again. Earth dissolves into its subtle perception of smell. Smell dissolves into water and water dissolves into its quality of taste. Taste dissolves into fire and fire dissolves into form. Form dissolves into touch and touch dissolves into space. Space finally dissolves into the perception of sound. All the senses dissolve into their originating presiding deities. O gentle Uddhava, these senses dissolve into the controlling mind, which dissolves into the sattvic ego. Sounds merge into the tamo-guna ego and the almighty ego, the first of all bodily elements, dissolves into the whole of nature. The whole of nature, the mother of the three gunas, dissolves into the gunas. Then these gunas dissolve into the unmanifested form of nature, which dissolves into time. Time merges into the Supreme Lord, who lives as the omniscient Mahapurush and as the primal motivator of all living beings. The origin of all life merges into me, the unborn Supreme Lord, who lives alone within himself. All creation and destruction emerge from Him.
