इंद्रप्रस्थ की सड़कें हाथियों के मस्तक से निकलने वाले सुगन्धित द्रव से छिड़के जाने से सुवासित थीं। रंग-बिरंगे झण्डे, सुनहरे प्रवेश द्वार और लबालब भरे जल-पात्र नगर की शोभा बढ़ा रहे थे। पुरुष और जवान लड़कियां सुन्दर और नए वस्त्रों से सजी थीं, फूलों की मालाओं और आभूषणों से सुसज्जित थीं और सुगन्धित चंदन के लेप से उनका शरीर सुगन्धित था। प्रत्येक घर जगमगाते दीयों और विनम्र भेंटों से भरा था, और जालीदार खिड़कियों के छेदों से अगरबत्ती की सुगन्ध आ रही थी, जिससे नगर की सुन्दरता और भी बढ़ रही थी। झण्डे लहरा रहे थे और छतों को चाँदी के चौड़े आधारों पर रखे सुनहरे कलशों से सजाया गया था। इस प्रकार भगवान कृष्ण ने कुरु राजा के राजसी नगर को देखा।
The streets of Indraprastha were sprinkled with water perfumed by the fluid that came out of the heads of elephants. Colourful flags, golden gates and full water-pots added to the splendour of the city. Men and young women were beautifully decked in the finest new clothes, adorned with garlands of flowers and jewels and smeared with fragrant sandalwood paste. Gleaming lamps were seen in every house and gifts were offered respectfully. Smoke of agarbatti was emanating from the holes in the latticed windows, which added to the beauty of the city. Flags were swaying and the roofs were decorated with golden urns placed on broad silver bases. Thus Lord Krishna saw the majestic city of the Kuru King.
