उनमें से कुछ वस्त्र धारण कर रही थीं, कुछ अपने शिशुओं को दूध पिला रही थीं या अपने पति की सेवा में संलग्न थीं, लेकिन उन सभी ने अपने कर्तव्यों को त्याग दिया और कृष्ण से मिलने चली गईं। कुछ गोपियाँ अपना शाम का भोजन कर रही थीं, कुछ नहा-धोकर शरीर में अंगराग या अपनी आँखों में कज्जल लगा रही थीं। किंतु सभी गोपियों ने तुरंत अपने-अपने कार्य बंद कर दिए और यद्यपि उनके वस्त्र तथा आभूषण अस्त-व्यस्त थे, वे कृष्ण के पास दौड़ गईं।
Some of them were dressing, some were feeding their children or attending to their husbands, but all of them left their work and went to meet Krishna. Some of the gopis were having their evening meal, some were bathing and putting perfume on their bodies or kajal on their eyes. But all of them immediately stopped their work and ran to Krishna, although their clothes and ornaments were in disarray.
