भगवान के शरीर का विस्तार बढ़ने से कालिय की कुंडली को कष्ट पहुँचाने लगा, इसलिए उसने भगवान को छोड़ दिया। तब क्रोध से भरा हुआ वह सर्प अपने फनों को ऊँचा उठाकर स्थिर खड़ा हो गया और जोर-जोर से फुफकारने लगा। उसके नथुने विष पकाने के बर्तनों की तरह दिखाई दे रहे थे और उसके चेहरे में घूरती आँखें आग के शोलों की तरह जल रही थीं। इस प्रकार सर्प ने भगवान की ओर देखा।
