Gaudiya Vaishnavism outlines a systematic evolution of devotion, dividing the practical execution of *Sadhana-bhakti* (devotional service in practice) into two clear, successive stages: *Vaidhi Bhakti* and *Raganuga Bhakti*.

**Vaidhi Bhakti** is devotional service governed entirely by rules, regulations, and scriptural injunctions (*vidhi*). At this stage, the practitioner may not possess a spontaneous, natural attraction or burning desire to chant or serve. They do so out of a sense of duty, fear of scriptural consequences, or intellectual conviction that it is the right thing to do. Most spiritual seekers begin here, adhering strictly to schedules, chanting prescribed rounds, and following rules to systematically clean the heart.

**Raganuga Bhakti** is the advanced stage where rules and regulations become secondary, and devotion is driven by a profound, spontaneous spiritual thirst and deep internal absorption (*Raga*). A Raganuga practitioner eagerly desires to follow in the footsteps of the eternal residents of Goloka Vrindavan—such as His cowherd friends (*gopas*), parents (*yashoda-nanda*), or the gopis. Their service is no longer motivated by obligation or fear, but by an uncontrollable, deep love. It is critical to note that Raganuga Bhakti is not an excuse to whimsically discard rules or indulge in premature emotionalism; it is a genuine internal awakening that can only be reached after passing through the purification of Vaidhi Bhakti.
