To an untrained materialistic observer, the food distributed within ISKCON temples looks like standard, delicious vegetarian cuisine. However, Vaishnava theology explains that this food undergoes a complete metaphysical transformation, shifting from mundane matter into *Prasadam* (the literal mercy of God). The process begins in the kitchen, where ingredients are prepared under strict standards of physical and mental cleanliness, with zero tasting allowed during the preparation. The meal is cooked exclusively for the pleasure of the Supreme Lord, bypassing human sensory selfishness. When the plate is placed on the altar along with authorized mantras, Krishna infuses the physical elements with His transcendental sight (*bhoksi*). Because God is absolute, His glance spiritualizes the matter entirely. Consuming Prasadam is a powerful spiritual therapy; it subdues wild sensory desires, cleanses the subconscious mind of past bad karma, and gradually awakens high spiritual intelligence within the practitioner.
