The Temple of the Vedic Planetarium (TOVP), currently under construction in Sridham Mayapur, West Bengal, is the crown jewel project of ISKCON. It was a vision originally predicted by Bhaktivinoda Thakura and explicitly handed down by Srila Prabhupada to his disciples. It is designed to serve as an unprecedented global epicenter for spiritual education and Vedic science.
Architecturally, it is one of the largest religious structures in the world. However, its true significance lies in its content and purpose. Inside the main dome, a massive, detailed three-dimensional moving model of the universe will be suspended, built strictly according to the cosmological descriptions found in the Fifth Canto of the Srimad-Bhagavatam.
The TOVP is designed to directly challenge the materialistic, mechanistic worldview of modern science, which views life as an accidental byproduct of chemicals and the universe as a random vacuum. By presenting the universe as a highly organized, purposeful, hierarchical creation designed by a Supreme Intelligence, the TOVP aims to bridge the gap between astrophysics and spiritual theology. It will serve as an intellectual beacon, drawing millions of visitors worldwide to experience the grandeur of Gaudiya Vaishnav cosmology and the practice of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s Sankirtan movement.
