Every living being is trying hard to find peace, from the smallest living entity up to Brahma, who created this universe. Brahma is also trying to find peace. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says that a person who is in full Krishna consciousness is the only peaceful person.
He is akamah. Akamah means those who have no desires. They are devotees of Krishna. They have only one desire: to serve the Lord. Others are in three classes:
Bhukti: One who is hankering for material happiness, sense enjoyment, or gratification.
Next class: Those who are frustrated with this material entanglement. They want liberation from this material entanglement.
Salvationists: There are those who speculate and search for the Absolute Truth. Then there are salvationists who want liberation. They also have the desire to become free from material entanglement.
Yogis: Then there are yogis who are searching for mystic perfection.
From bhuktis to yogis, they all have desires, but devotees of Krishna have only one desire: to serve Krishna.
Our mind is always dictating us to do this or that. One has to stop this nonsense. People who are non-devotees are just guideless. They can't guide or stop their minds, but a person who is Krishna conscious has the supreme guide, Krishna.
For example, a child under the care of his parents does not worry about anything, but as soon as he grows up, he has to take care of himself and has to worry about everything. He has many fears, but under the care of his parents, he had no fear. Similarly, when we depend on Krishna, we don't need to feel worry or fear, as He is the supreme guide and the supreme cause. But one who tries to depend only on himself has to face many fears, and he is always worried.
All the classes mentioned before are full of anxiety, but a devotee of Krishna is free from anxiety. He is liberated. Fearful anxiety exists because we don't know Krishna. Maya is so strong; we should always remember Krishna. As soon as Maya sees that, she captures us. So there is only fear from this illusion.
Prabhupada explained that the living entity wants peace without God, but it is not possible. Peace can be attained by understanding God. The peace formula is that one must know Krishna is the proprietor of everything.
We are searching for a friend to give us peace and tranquility. The real friend is Krishna. If you just try to have friendship with God, then everyone will be your friend and understand that He is the proprietor of everything. Then there will be peace.
It is presented in Bhagavad-gita, Chaitanya Charitamrita, and other Vedic literature. You need to understand this. He is the friend and proprietor of everyone and everything. That is the Peace Formula.
Why don't people have peace? Because they think, "This is my house, my this, my that..." But everything belongs to Krishna. He is the proprietor. Our real business is to become Krishna conscious. A Krishna conscious person is always peaceful and fearless because he knows that God is everywhere and in every living entity's heart as Paramatma.
Even inside a pig, but it doesn't mean Krishna enjoys or becomes affected by the pig's dirty activities.
For example, just as a doctor treats diseased people or patients, it does not mean he himself becomes diseased. So Krishna remains completely pure and transcendental.
Srila Prabhupada says that Krishna conscious people or devotees who are in full Krishna consciousness are very rare. But Chaitanya Mahaprabhu saw the pitiable condition of the people in Kali-yuga. Out of His causeless mercy, He freely distributed love of Godhead.
Because love of Godhead is freely distributed, people don't care for it.
For example, in India, Langra mango is called a first-class mango. So, if we distribute that at everyone's doorstep, everyone will doubt why they are giving these first-class mangoes freely. There would be a profit or motive behind that. Similarly, Mahaprabhu distributed it freely, but people are so foolish. They think, "They are simply chanting Hare Krishna. What is there to it?"
It is simple to chant, but not cheap. It is simple to chant because, in this Kali-yuga, people cannot perform severe austerities, yajnas, or complicated rituals. Therefore, Mahaprabhu gave this simple process—to chant the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra. So we should take this process seriously to attain pure love of God.
Only a very rare and fortunate soul receives Krishna consciousness, and that fortune comes by the mercy of pure devotees.
Sometimes devotees go door to door not for wealth but to give spiritual wealth to everyone. Sannyasis sometimes beg not because they are poor but to give householders an opportunity to serve. If someone gives some food, he gains spiritual benefits.
Someone meets a pure devotee by great fortune. From the mercy of that devotee, one begins his spiritual life. By the mercy of Krishna, one gets a guru, and by the guru's mercy, one gets the seed of bhakti. The seed of bhakti should be planted in our hearts. Now that seed needs water.
Water is chanting the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra and hearing God's kathas every day. If you don't water the seed, it will get dry.
Some think, "I am now initiated. Now I don't need to hear." Prabhupada says, "No." One should not stop hearing about God, not even advanced devotees, because Maya is always waiting.
The bhakti creeper keeps growing, unlike ordinary plants. It crosses the entire material universe, then it crosses the Viraja River, then Brahmajyoti, then the Vaikuntha planets, then Goloka Vrindavan. It stops there and takes shelter of Krishna's lotus feet. There it rests.
Similarly, like ordinary plants, a creeper attaches itself to something and then expands. When the devotional plant gets to the lotus feet of Krishna, it expands. There it enjoys. To expand means to enjoy Krishna's association. There the devotees are satisfied.
Conclusion: By chanting and hearing, continue this process. You will gradually grow and grow and eventually reach Krishna's lotus feet and relish His association. That is the real peace formula.
